To boost the development of Wan Chai and enhance the environment of the surrounding area, Hopewell Holdings has planned and proposed a development of Hopewell Centre II, connected and situated adjacent to the current Hopewell Centre. The proposed development involved site formation, foundation works, building works and road enhancement work.

W T Chan & Associates Limited was invited to carry out the design of tower crane footings and an approx. 100m long temporary steel platform, to facilitate the ongoing construction work and a proposed temporary traffic arrangement of Kennedy Road. The challenge was to design a temporary steel platform on an existing slope to undertake the construction load and traffic load, while ensuring no adverse effect towards the slopes and features. Simulation programs were used to assess the stability and structural capacity of the slopes and soil nails respectively.
